1 The Institution

1.1 Developments

The School of Logistics and E-Commerce was established in 2010 and has undergone three key development phases:

(1) Initial Stage (2010–2016)

During this period, the school focused on logistics management and e-commerce as its core disciplines, aiming to cultivate application-oriented undergraduate talent for the port and shipping logistics industry in Ningbo. In 2011, the school obtained approval for a Master’s program in Engineering Management, independently recruiting and training postgraduate students. By integrating industry and education, the school provided services to Ningbo’s port and shipping logistics industry, gradually establishing a distinctive educational model centered on port and shipping logistics with a primary focus on undergraduate talent cultivation.

(2) Development of Comprehensive Development (2016–2021)

Aligning closely with regional economic development needs, the school deepened industry-education-research collaboration to train professionals in cross-border e-commerce and port and shipping logistics. It was successively selected as one of Ningbo’s first batch of pilot specialty schools, Zhejiang Province’s first key-supported modern industry schools, and Ningbo’s first modern industry schools. Meanwhile, Management Science and Engineering was recognized as a first-class discipline in Zhejiang Province and an A-class key discipline in Ningbo. Further, the school actively promoted internationalization, with its Logistics Management program being designated as an internationalized program in Zhejiang Province. It also launched degree programs for international students and began international accreditation efforts, becoming an AMBA & BGA Bronze Member in 2019 and obtaining AMBA & BGA Silver Accreditation in 2021.

(3) High-Quality Development Stage (2022–Present)

Focusing on the dual goals of upgrading to a university and constructing a doctoral-degree-granting institution, the school has implemented five core strategies, which are: Talent Development Strategy, Discipline Development Strategy, Industry-Academia-Research Integration Strategy, Internationalization Strategy, and Sustainable Development Strategy. The school has enhanced its academic strength, with Management Science and Engineering being recognized again as a first-class discipline in Zhejiang Province and an A-class key discipline in Ningbo. It has fully embraced sustainability principles, embarking on a new phase of development that integrates discipline construction, scientific research, talent cultivation, and social services.

Currently, the school consists of three academic departments, which are Department of Logistics Management, Department of E-Commerce, and Department of Business Administration.
