Course Description:
Responsibility and Sustainable Management is designed to cultivate students’ sense of responsibility and awareness of sustainable development as future managers. The course explores three core themes—sustainability, responsibility management, and ethics—and aims to equip students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. It covers how to integrate responsible management concepts into various managerial functions such as strategic management and financial management, with a strong emphasis on real-world application.
Learning Outcomes:
Upon completing this course, students will be able to:
Master the fundamental knowledge of responsibility and sustainable management, including its background, driving forces, and challenges;
Develop an awareness of responsibility and sustainable development, recognizing the role of businesses and society in promoting sustainability;
Understand methods and tools of responsible and sustainable management, including the triple bottom line, stakeholder value management, and the pursuit of ethical excellence;
Apply learned theories to analyze and solve real-world corporate challenges related to responsible management;
Improve comprehensive skills such as written communication, logical thinking, interpersonal communication, and teamwork.
Teaching Methods:
This course primarily adopts a seminar-based teaching method guided by instructors and supported by case studies and independent learning. Specifically, it includes:
Seminar-style instruction: Encourages students to actively participate in classroom discussions and share their insights and perspectives;
Case teaching: Uses real-world business cases to help students better understand and apply the principles of responsible management;
Self-directed learning: Assigns reading materials and tasks outside of class to foster independent research and exploration.
Assessment Methods:
Final grades consist of two components:
Class performance (40%): Includes class participation and self-study performance, such as attendance and discipline (10%), homework (10%), and case discussion presentations (20%).
Final assessment (60%): In the form of a capstone project, students are required to select a specific management domain (e.g., strategic management, innovation and entrepreneurship) and design a research project focused on the application of responsibility and sustainability concepts.
